Thank you for visiting The Stan Laurel Inn website. As an up-to-date business, we want to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with The Stan Laurel Inn, Ulverston and our offers. We are currently building this new website to give you the information that we think will be usefull to you.

It's the summer (or so rumour has it, rain, rain and more rain!!) and already we have our Christmas menu available for all those early birds who want to arrange their office meal or get together. We would advise booking soon as we find that the more popular days will be booked up quickly. We can accommodate upto 24 people in the dining room comfortably. I will endevour to place a copy of the Christmas menu on the menu page when I get my head around the technical wizardry required for such a feat. Unfortunately, if you were hoping to dine with us on Christmas Day we are already fully booked.

Our first award.... Yes, after only 4 months of trading we were delighted and pleasantly surprised to be awarded The CAMRA Pub of the Season Award for the summer season 2007. Thank You to CAMRA members and all of our customers for such a good start to our time here.

Situated just 30 minutes from M6 (junction 36, A590) is the bustling historic market town of Ulverston with its wonderfull cobbled streets and yards. Ulverston is on the southern edge of The Lake District and is an ideal base to explore the south lakes area with Windermere, Kendal, Bowness, Coniston and Morecombe bay all within easy reach of the town. Also known for its thriving artistic community the town is proud of the variety and quality of festivals and events which are held throughout the year. Perhaps, however Ulverston's main claim to fame can be that it is the birth place of one Arthur Stanley Jefferson on the 16th June 1890. Here he lived and grew up before moving to America where he became known much better as Stan Laurel (Laurel and Hardy fame). Also situated in the town is the world famous Laurel and Hardy museum, well worth a visit while you are here.

The pub was originally known as The Britannia and was housed in the front of the building with several small rooms. It was well known in the area for good beer and attracted customers from far and wide. The Stan Laurel Inn was opened in its present format in 1976 to a fanfare of publicity and stacks of local interest due to the pub bearing the name of Ulverston's best loved son and arguably the finest comedian of all time who lived only a few yards away in Argyle Street. During the last 30 years the pub has been extended into the cottages next door and also to the rear and now has three distinct rooms downstairs and also three rooms upstairs for bed and breakfast.

Nowadays The Stan Laurel  has just been taken over by Trudi and Paul Dewar who bring with them a wealth of experience.

We are keen to try and use locally produced products wherever possible. On the left is an example of the "coming soon" cask ale blackboard. We always try to have one brew from the Ulverston Brewery Company (always named after a Laurel and Hardy film), one brew from Thwaites and three other locally brewed ale.
